Urub

We live in a fast-paced era—modern, filled with the roar of competition, and a relentless thirst for consumption. In this frenzy, humans often forget: the endless pursuit of happiness, grasping at the world without pause. However, have we not forgotten that true happiness is not about possessing, but about giving?

Behind the harmony of life, there is a story of sacrifice. Our earth is beautiful and sustainable not because of greed, but because of the willingness of living beings to give up a part of themselves for something greater.

A mother risks her life in childbirth. Her entire life is a record of selfless love, of sacrifice that builds new life. Within her lies a profound message of altruism—a nature that resides in every living being's genes.

Nature also speaks the same language. Earth-shaking volcanic eruptions are not only about destruction, but also about new beginnings. From ash and lava, a lush, green ecosystem grows, teeming with life. Thus the universe demonstrates that sacrifice is part of the eternal dance of creation.

Far beyond, a supernova explodes, giving itself away so that the elements of life can be created. From that explosion, galaxies, solar systems, and finally, a small planet called Earth were born—a place where we breathe and dream.

In the Indonesian archipelago, this wisdom has long been embedded. As immortalized by Sunan Kalijaga in the wise words of Semar: "Urip iku urub."
Life is burning. Life is illuminating, giving life. Life is about being a light for others, about benefiting the world.

This is the essence of this collection. URUB is a great flame that we hope to illuminate. Each piece is the result of a long journey filled with thought, dedication, and love. Within it, there is the story of batik artisans—their sacrifices and their immeasurable art.

Altruis/Urub is a reflection of our love for the Indonesian archipelago, a dedication born from the spirit of the universe. We may not yet be like mothers, but through collaboration with artisans, we want to light a light for the ecosystem of traditional textile culture in Indonesia.

This is the harmony between hand, heart, and soul.

This is URUB.
